This year, while working at TruGreen, I fell completely in love with agronomics. I found myself spending my free time studying the science of our soil and water, which led me to discover the vital work of our local Soil and Water Board. When I saw there were open seats, I knew this was my moment to step up. I believe the practical experience I gained in lawn care gives me a unique, hands-on perspective to help our community. My goal is simple: I want to be a public servant who truly listens to you. I want to crunch the numbers, find out what the majority of our neighbors actually need, and use my role to deliver real results. I am running a strictly non-partisan campaign because that is how local government should work, and I am ready to bring that focus back to our community.
Did you know we have a Soil and Water Board? Most people don’t even know it exists, and I want to change that. Over my four-year term, my focus will be on hosting public education sessions and promoting the Board’s work throughout our community. This isn't just important for our local farmers; it matters to everyday people too. That is why I plan to bring this information directly to you at the community events we already love, like the county fair and the Dogwood Festival. By connecting face-to-face, we can ensure that everyone in our community is informed and engaged with the vital work of the Soil and Water Board.
As the youngest candidate running in this race, I am ready to lead my generation in protecting and preserving our county’s precious soil and water resources. This is about our future, and I believe we need to actively involve the young people who will inherit it. My plan is to establish a connection program that brings agriculture science students from our local colleges and universities directly into this vital work. By engaging these students, we can help the next generation get a real head start in soil and water conservation. Together, we can safeguard our natural resources and ensure our community thrives for years to come.
Working at TruGreen this year, I saw firsthand how the drought hit Cumberland County. Lawns dried up and soil compacted, making it nearly impossible for folks to keep their grass alive. With rising water costs, many in our community simply couldn't afford to water their lawns. This isn't just about grass; it's about our farmers, our natural resources, and our neighbors. That is why I want our Soil and Water Board to better prepare us for future droughts. I will push to investigate this year's drought effects, research new technologies for our county, and expand public education and awareness, especially for our farmers and those who lack the resources to adapt. Together, we can protect our environment and ensure equitable access for everyone.
